What to Expect

What to Expect

When you visit

Expect a simple, reverent, and practical worship experience focused on Scripture, Christ-centered teaching, and community. The church strives to be visitor-friendly, fostering an environment of encouragement, hope, and spiritual growth.

Friendly and Inclusive Atmosphere

When you visit, you will encounter a diverse and friendly congregation that welcomes guests warmly. Members aim to make visitors feel comfortable without singling anyone out. The congregation typically includes people of all ages, races, and professional backgrounds, reflecting the church’s belief that God’s church is for everyone (Acts 10:34-35).

Worship Services

Services are structured and orderly, following a pattern based on New Testament teachings. You can expect:

  • Singing: Congregational a cappella singing (without instruments) is a hallmark, emphasizing heartfelt worship and clear understanding of the lyrics (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).
  • Prayer: Prayers are offered during the service for the sick, blessings, and encouragement.
  • Bible Lessons: Sermons and classes focus on studying Scripture, teaching the gospel, and practical Christian living (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
  • Lord’s Supper: Weekly communion commemorates Christ’s death and celebrates His promised return, following the example of the early church (Acts 20:7).
  • Collection: Members contribute as an act of worship, but visitors are not expected to give.

Bible-Centered Teaching

Churches of Christ emphasize strict adherence to the Bible as the sole authority in faith and practice. Visitors will hear teachings on salvation, obedience, and Christian living based directly on Scripture, without human creeds or traditions (Galatians 1:8-9; Philippians 3:16). Bible classes are offered for all ages, providing opportunities to learn and engage with God’s Word.

Visitor Experience

You are free to sit anywhere, follow along with a hymnbook, and participate as you feel comfortable. First-time visitors often find the singing and worship meaningful and easy to follow. Free literature, such as booklets and tracts, is available for guests. If you are not yet a Christian, you will have the opportunity to learn about and obey the gospel during your visit (Acts 8:38-39).
